Caminito del Rey: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Caminito del Rey website?
No. Caminito del Rey Guide is an independent visitor guide. The official website of the walk is caminitodelrey.info, whose content belongs to the Diputación de Málaga. We are not the Diputación, we do not run the walk and this is not the official website. The guided tours we feature are run by local operators and sold by our partner Tiqets.
How much does a ticket cost?
On the official site, 10 € for the general ticket and 18 € for the official guided visit, as read on 22 October 2026. The shuttle bus costs 2.50 € and parking at the Visitor Reception Centre 2 €. Guided tours by local operators start at around 30 € at the time of writing.
Where do I buy official tickets?
On the official site, with a personal account: you choose the day and the time slot, can buy up to 10 tickets per purchase, and must personalise each ticket afterwards. A ticket on your phone is enough. You can also buy at the ticket office at the north access. The official site says to buy only from authorised sellers.
Are the Tiqets tours entry tickets?
No. They are guided tours by local operators. According to Tiqets, they include the entrance, a guide, and depending on the product a shuttle bus, water, a helmet or transport from Málaga, the Costa del Sol or Seville. We do not sell plain entry tickets.
Is the Caminito del Rey open on Mondays?
Normally no: it is open Tuesday to Sunday. The official site says some special Mondays are open, so check its calendar. It is also closed on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January.
How long does the walk take?
The official site says 3 to 4 hours for the whole route, including the access paths, and about 150 minutes for the controlled section.
Can children walk the Caminito del Rey?
Not under 8: they are not admitted. Ages 8 to 17 must be with an adult and carry an original ID (identity card, passport or family record book) for the age check at the entrance.
Do I need to bring a helmet?
No. The official site says the safety equipment is provided at the entrance and must be worn throughout the visit. You return the helmet at El Chorro at the end.
Is it a one-way walk?
Yes, from north to south, and you cannot go back. At the end you can take the shuttle bus (2.50 €) between El Chorro and the north access.
What can I not bring?
The official list of prohibitions includes umbrellas, large backpacks and bags, strollers, wheelchairs, sticks and crutches, selfie sticks, tripods, pets (guide dogs too), alcohol, and drones without authorisation. Photos and video are allowed without a tripod.
Is the Caminito del Rey suitable for people with vertigo?
The official site does not recommend it. The walkways are narrow and high, and the hanging bridge has a grated floor. Read our article on whether the walk is scary before you book.
What if it rains or the wind is strong?
Light rain is fine with a raincoat. Heavy rain or strong wind can close the walk, even during your visit. If it closes for weather, you can change the date from your personal account, subject to availability.
What should I bring to drink and eat?
The official site recommends at least 1.5 litres of water per person, and sun protection in summer. There are no bins or toilets along the route, only at the accesses, so eat before or after and take your litter with you. Mobile signal is almost absent.
Can I get a refund or change my date?
Official tickets cannot be refunded or changed, except for a date change when the walk is closed for weather. Terms for tours sold by Tiqets differ by product: read the cancellation terms on the product page.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you can: dates are released in rounds and popular days sell out. A report from August 2026 says passes were on sale for visits up to 6 December 2026, and we could not confirm what is on sale now.
Can I reach the Caminito del Rey by train from Málaga?
